IVF success rate

In the following text, you can find the success rates of medically assisted reproduction in the BetaPlus Center for 2018.

The total number of cycles started in 2018 was 480, of those 308 were IVF/ICSI cycles, 111 FET, and 61 AIH procedures. In these procedures, in patients of different age ranges (23 to 45) we achieved 145 pregnancies, of which 120 continued normal development. Also, last year 96 babies were delivered after the ART procedures in 2017 and at the beginning of 2018.

IVF/ICSI

Of 308 fresh IVF/ICSI cycles started, in 25 cycles (8.1%) we did not perform aspiration because of the poor response to the therapy. We performed 283 IVF/ICSI aspirations and of those:

  • In 10 procedures the oocytes were not obtained,
  • In 21 procedures there were no fertilization
  • Embryo transfer was not performed in 56 cycles, either due to the prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (ten “freeze all” procedures), abnormal fertilization (three), embryo arrested development (two), and in one case because of the medical reason.

In fresh IVF/ICSI cycles, there were 236 embryo transfers in total.

194 embryo transfers were performed on embryo day 2 or 3, and the rest on the fifth day after fertilization. In fresh embryo transfers, we mainly transferred one (101 embryo transfers) or two embryos (109 embryo transfers), while rarely transferring three embryos (26).  The success rate by embryo transfer of one embryo was 27.7%, two 36.7%, and three 38.5%.

We transferred three embryos only in special cases, mainly when the age of the patient was above 40 years and/or when the patient had a long history of unsuccessful ART procedures. We also had a patient with triple pregnancy from three embryos transferred, which we decided to transfer because of the history of failed IVF procedures. However, in the first trimester, one fetus did not develop further, and the pregnancy outcome was the birth of two healthy babies.

There were 78 pregnancies in total. One pregnancy was ectopic. There were 10 twin pregnancies in total (12.8%).

Better chances for successful treatment had younger patients, with a higher number of oocytes collected and a higher number of embryos for cryopreservation. The data are presented in the table below.

Frozen embryo transfer (FET)

Of 111 cycles started for cryo embryo transfer (FET), the procedure was not performed in 10 cases, mostly because of the inadequate endometrial thickness. Cryo embryo transfer was mainly performed in a stimulated cycle, but in 12 patients it was performed in a natural cycle. Of the total FET procedures performed, in 57 cases one embryo was transferred, and in 44 two embryos.

After cryo embryo transfer, pregnancy was achieved in 56 women, with seven biochemical pregnancies. There were seven twin pregnancies.

Insemination (AIH)

There were 61 insemination cycles started, and 58 insemination procedures were performed. Eleven pregnancies were achieved, one was biochemical. The results are presented in the table below.
