To whom it may concern:
I am interested in ART procedure using donated oocytes. As it is a procedure with high quality embryos, what is pregnancy rate for woman over 40 years who has uterus with inoperable intramural fibroids?
Answer by: Romana Dmitrović, MD, PhD
Pregnancy is a result of two factors: good embryo and healthy uterus. So if the uterus is deformed, pregnancy rate declines.
It is necessary to precisely locate intramural fibroids. Pregnancy rate is lower if fibroids are deforming uterine cavity because it is where the future embryo should reside. If endometrium cannot be visualized because of overlapping fibroids, pregnancy chances are very low.
This particular patient should consult the infertility specialist who will estimate if there is a chance for pregnancy.
