Head physician Mihajlo Strelec, PhD, graduated from the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine. He is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics and a subspecialist in human reproduction. In 2000 he was awarded a master’s degree in medical sciences (MSc) upon completing the postgraduate study programme “Information Systems in Healthcare” at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine. He also completed the postgraduate study programme in healthcare management, LMHS (Leadership and Management of Health Services), which is known internationally for its standards of excellence, and is also a recognised education programme for leaders and managers in healthcare. In 2004, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of minimally invasive surgery in gynaecology at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine.
He spent much of his career at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Institute for Human Reproduction and Gynaecological Endocrinology, where he focused on infertility. As the Head of the Institute since 2019, he has continued the legacy of leading figures in Croatian gynaecological endocrinology—professors Drobnjak, Grizelj and Šimunić. The areas of particular interest of Dr. M. Strelec are assisted reproduction and reproductive endocrinology, as well as endoscopic procedures in gynaecology, especially in the context of infertility treatment. In addition to working at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Dr. Strelec was the initiator of the IVF programme in Libya in 1996, and has worked in similar jobs in Denmark on several occasions.
Head physician Mihajlo Strelec, PhD, has been an associate lecturer at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine (study programme in English), and from the very beginning he has been participating in first-category postgraduate courses in gynaecological endoscopy “Kurt Stem”. As a lecturer, he has participated in both national and international conferences and professional meetings, and he has authored the chapters of several books on gynaecology as well as some internationally cited scientific articles. The Ministry of Health appointed him as a mentor to physicians in subspecialty training in human reproduction, and he is a permanent expert medical examiner of the Croatian Health Insurance Fund for matters of infertility treatment abroad.
