Infertility specialists

Dr. Alenka Sirovec was born in Zagreb, where she graduated from a linguistic-focused grammar school and then from the School of Medicine, after which she attended a study programme at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

She is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics and a subspecialist in human reproduction. She completed the postgraduate study programme in healthcare management, LMHS (Leadership and Management of Health Services), which is known internationally for its standards of excellence, and is also a recognised education programme for leaders and managers in healthcare.

From 2007 to 2016, she worked at the “Sveti Duh” Clinical Hospital as a gynaecologist and obstetrician, where she performed open, endoscopic (minimally invasive) and vaginal surgeries in women of all ages, including surgical oncology. She was also in charge of antenatal care for complicated pregnancies up to delivery.

She taught and led ultrasound examination skills training for gynaecologists attending the postgraduate study programme called “3D and 4D Ultrasound in Gynaecology” at Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar, which was the result of cooperation between the University of Zagreb and Cornell University in Doha.

After completing her subspecialty training in human reproduction at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Dr. Sirovec continued her career in Denmark, where she worked for several years as a fertility specialist (reproduction subspecialist) and consultant to infertile couples and single women who want to achieve pregnancy without a partner.

Dr. Sirovec is particularly interested in assisted reproduction after multiple failed IVF procedures and repeated implantation failures, as well as donation programs in human reproduction, reproductive endocrinology, menopause, colour Doppler, and three-dimensional/four-dimensional ultrasound. As a guest lecturer, she participated in numerous national and international professional meetings on the use of low-molecular-weight heparin in the treatment of infertility and pregnancy, male infertility, and excess body weight in the treatment of infertility.

Dr. Sirovec speaks English, Danish, German, and Italian. She is the only physician in Croatia involved in counselling and referral of couples, women who want to achieve pregnancy without a partner, couples who are advised to donate an egg or semen and couples who are advised to donate an embryo (“double donation”) to the very best European clinics she collaborates with, and which have a percentage of live births per embryo transfer greater than 55%. Dr. Sirovec develops treatment plans for those couples, guides them on their journey to success, and provides them with psychological and emotional support.

Dr. Sirovec is particularly experienced in working with couples who have gone through a lot of failed procedures (an average of 6-8 failed IVF procedures), couples dealing with endometriosis, adenomyosis, polycystic ovaries, and poor results of semen analysis.
