Romana Dmitrovic is M.D., Ph.D, primarius and assistant professor at University of Rijeka Medical School. She completed Medical School at the University of Zagreb. Since 2001 she has been a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In 2001 she became Master of Medical Science (MSc) at the postgraduate study on Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical University of Zagreb. In 2008 she defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Endometrial thickness following embryo implantation” at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Ljubljana. She is an infertility specialist.
She studied and was educated at the world’s top clinics with which she still maintains contact. In 2000 she visited Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University in Chicago, USA (supervisors: Prof. Dr. John Sciarra and prof. Dr. Louis Keith, the world’s leading experts in the field of infertility, endometriosis, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, and multiple pregnancy). Since 2003 she had been spending several weeks to several months a year at a hospital in Maribor, at the Department of Reproductive Gynecology (supervisor: Prof. dr. Veljko Vlaisavljevic) and in 2004/2005, during Fulbriht’s scholarship, she spent a year at the Penn State University, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Department of Reproductive Endocrinology in the USA (Mentor: Professor Richard Legro, one of the world’s leading experts in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome). She also works closely with a Senior lecturer Tonko Mardesic, the owner of Pronatal Sanatorium in Prague.
Dr. Dmitrovic’s areas of interest are color Doppler and three-dimensional / four-dimensional ultrasound, assisted reproduction and reproductive endocrinology with a special emphasis on polycystic ovary syndrome and the problems related to hormonal imbalance in women. She received numerous awards among which the International Fellow Award, which she was awarded by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). Award of Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, “Borislav Nakic” was awarded to her for the best paper published in the year 2000 for scientists younger than 35 years. She also won the Fulbright scholarship, FIRCA – Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award – the U.S. agency, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) award to her for a joint project of the U.S. and foreign scientists, and Scientific and educational scholarship for foreign nationals who participate in projects in Republic of Slovenia – Ad Futura, Scientific and Educational Foundation of the Republic of Slovenia.
Dr. Romana Dmitrovic is a lecturer and research associate at the Medical School at the University of Zagreb, Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI), and at the first category postgraduate course, “Doppler ultrasound diagnosis of vascular diseases.” As a teacher she participates in national and international professional meetings. She is the author of many chapters in domestic and foreign books on gynecology, and numerous scientific articles which are cited in the international indexes. She is a rewiever of several major international journals (Human Reproduction, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, Fertility Sterility).
